The Marquis of Linares Silver Masterpiece

By Edmond Tétard

The garniture, in an eclectic and historicist style, repeats the same composition. The bases are mixtilinear profile platforms supported by lion claws, and show foliage decorations and the coat of arms that identifies the Spaniards José de Murga y Reolid and Raimunda de Osorio y Ortega, 1st Marquis and Marchioness of Linares and 1st Viscount and Viscountess of Llanteno, as the ones who commissioned the works. Seated on these platforms, couples comprised by the figures of a woman and a child represent different allegories: the candelabra are allegories of the four seasons, the centerpieces day and night, and the monumental centerpiece symbolizes hunting and fishing.
