This polychromed terracotta figure by Luisa Roldán, possibly created during her time as court sculptor to Charles II in Madrid, depicts Mary as a mother and intercessor of Christ. Cherubs adorn the bottom in a cloud of glory. Similar compositions exist in private collections and museums, dating around 1690-1700. Roldán's talent in terracotta sculpture was praised, with examples including the Virgin with Child, Saint Teresa, and others.
