Perhaps this work was intended for the private worship of some personage close to the Court, who was able to commission it from the sculptor. This type of work was just right for private worship, not just because of its size but because of the values and meanings it contains.


In short, the stylistic characteristics, the model, the material, the typology… these are all decisive elements that allow us to conclude that this Infant Christ sleeping on a skull is an original work by Morelli.
