Nicolás Correa, born around 1665 into a mulatto artistic family, was a skilled painter whose work deserves more attention. Despite limited surviving pieces, Correa’s combination of traditional techniques with enconchado, a method using mother-of-pearl inlay, highlights his originality. While he was contemporaneous with prominent artists like Juan and Miguel González, Correa’s work, such as the unpublished "Virgin of the Apocalypse," demonstrates his unique style and high craftsmanship. His paintings, characterized by detailed use of mother-of-pearl and rich iconography, contribute significantly to the history of enconchado art, placing him alongside the González family in art history.
